Diprediksi Pasar ecommerce di Asia Tenggara akan Menduduki Peringkat Ketiga, Menyusul Tiongkok dan India

Asia Tenggara memiliki pertumbuhan internet yang terbilang cukup pesat. Menurut laporan Google dan Temasek, perkiraan jumlah pengguna berkisar di angka 260 juta, dan akan melonjak tinggi hingga 489 juta pada 2020. Selain itu, pengguna baru akan bertambah sekitar 3,8 juta dengan nilai yang juga akan berkembang lebih dari US$ 200 miliar pada 2026. Dengan kisaran jumlah yang mengesankan ini, pasar e-commerce di Asia Tenggara diprediksi mampu menduduki peringkat ketiga, menyusul Tiongkok dan India.
Berdasarkan informasi yang ada, Asia Tenggara punya produk domestik bruto (PDB) dengan nilai lebih dari US$ 2,5 triliun. Indonesia pun diyakini akan turut terkena imbasnya.  Dari jumlah pekerja sebanyak 109 juta pada 2010 diperkirakan akan mampu mencapai angka 280 juta pekerja pada 2030 nanti. Pertumbuhan tersebut dinilai cukup identik dengan yang dialami oleh Tiongkok pada 2009 dan meningkat 1,5 kali dari pertumbuhan pekerja di India.

E-Commerce, media online, dan perjalanan wisata merupakan tiga industri yang menopang pertumbuhan internet di Asia Tenggara. Dari tiga sektor ini, e – commerce memiliki pertumbuhan tercepat, yakni 32 persen dalam tingkat pertumbuhan tahunannya.
yStats[dot]com juga melaporkan, Indonesia diyakini berpotensi menjadi pasar eCommerce B2C terbesar di Asia Tenggara karena pertumbuhan penetrasi perangkat mobile yang kuat. Seperti diketahui, kebanyakan orang Indonesia cenderung mengakses internet melalui smartphone yang mereka miliki. Fenomena ini mulai aktif terjadi sejak 2014 silam. Tak jarang, smartphone juga dimanfaatkan sebagai perangkat yang pas untuk belanja online.
